Pabau: No self-serve trial. Pabau's own blogs states there is no self-serve trial and directs you to book a demo instead. Their demo runs 20 to 30 minutes, which can make it difficult to judge product fit for your clinic in such a limited amount of time.

Pabau's own FAQ explains that for larger teams, pricing depends on your exact user count and add-ons, so the figure comes on the call. Less transparency & custom contracts subject to internal pricing frameworks.

Certifications & Compliance

WriteUpp: WriteUpp itself is ISO 27001 certified, alongside GDPR compliance, HIPAA, PHIPA & PIPEDA, end to end encryption and two-factor authentication. The certification covers how we run the business.

Pabau: Pabau's Trust Centre separates certifications held by Pabau from those held by its hosting providers, and lists ISO 27001 in the second group, held by their data centre operator CoreSite.

Where your clinical data is processed and stored

WriteUpp: WriteUpp has multiple servers across the UK, EU & Canada. Your data is encrypted in flight and at rest and your navigation runs on 256 bit SSL encryption giving you peace of mind that your data is secure whenever and wherever you use WriteUpp. With seperate servers per region, your data never leaves your home region, ensuring you are data compliant with patient information.

Pabau: Pabau publishes its subprocessor list openly. It shows consultation audio processed for speech-to-text by US-based providers, AI note structuring and letter drafting by a US-based provider, and AI scribe transcripts and notes stored across EU and US regions.

WriteUpp: Built for physiotherapists, counsellors and psychotherapists, OTs, speech therapists, podiatrists, weight loss, dermatology and aesthetics, for a whole host of multi-disciplinary clinics, with configurable templates for each discipline meaning you can customise the experience based on your needs.

Pabau: Pabau's specialty pages lead with medical aesthetics, cosmetic surgery, dermatology, hair transplant, IV therapy and weight loss. Their own mobile app listing describes it as built for medical aesthetics practices, beauty salons and wellness clinics.

Onboarding and training, included

WriteUpp: Unlimited onboarding and training, included in your subscription. No implementation fee, no upgrade tier, no one-off payment at signup. Our UK-based support team responds in an average of 7 minutes, with a library of help articles and training videos available to help you get up to speed quickly.

Pabau: Pabau includes free live support 21 hours a day and a large library of help articles and training videos. Deeper onboarding is sold separately. Their project management service is described on their own site as an optional one-off fee paid during onboarding, and their platinum customer success package as an optional one-off payment selected at signup. Dedicated account management, on-site training and support upgrades are listed alongside them as optional upgrades.

Non-clinical fees

WriteUpp: Non-clinical users are free. Our Solo plan includes a free non-clinical user for admin tasks, and on the Group plan you can add as many non-clinical users as you need at no charge. They don't hold a diary and aren't listed as appointment resources, so you only pay for the people delivering care.

Pabau: Pabau counts receptionists and clinic managers as users. Their own definition of a user is anyone who logs in to manage appointments, access patient records, or carry out clinical or administrative tasks. A practice with three clinicians and two receptionists pays for five.

Pabau: Pabau's onboarding services are sold as one-off fees paid at signup, and pricing is confirmed on a demo call rather than published, making it harder to understand cancellation policies before reaching out.

Payment processing including Tap to Pay on Android & IPhone

WriteUpp: WriteUpp Pay turns the phone already in your pocket into a contactless terminal. Patients tap a card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay directly on your device, the invoice is marked paid, and it syncs to the appointment record automatically. No card machine to buy, no monthly terminal fee, no manual reconciliation, saving around £200 on day one. Available on both iPhone and Android, and payments can be started in the app or triggered from desktop and finished on your phone. A WisePad 3 reader can be connected if you'd rather use one. Powered by Stripe, with Stripe's standard rates and no added platform fee.

Pabau: Card processing is outsourced to Stripe with no raw card data stored. Pabau GO added Tap to Pay on iPhone, and supports the BBPOS WisePad 3 Bluetooth terminal. Card terminals are sold under Pabau Pay as an optional upgrade.
