7 Tips To Become a Twitter Superstar
Twitter has 232 million active users and there’s 350,000 tweets sent per minute. However despite these astonishing numbers so many people still underestimate the power of twitter. There are lots of businesses, particularly in small private healthcare practices, who set up their Twitter accounts only to never touch them again.
If you have never used Twitter before it can seem confusing and intimidating, but not to worry, there are some really simple essentials that you can do to grow your audience, awareness and engagement. Invest your time and follow the below tips and you will soon be reaping the rewards.
Establish your target audience
Once you’ve figured out what your target audience looks like try to follow only people that are relevant to you and your business. This way each engagement is more likely to bring valuable leads.
Be Brand consistent
Ensure that your Twitter account matches the look of your website and other social media profiles, that way you will become more recognizable.
Make use of Lists
In time the list of people you follow will grow, which makes it very easy to miss the tweets of the people that are of most interest to you.
You can create custom private and public lists on Twitter. Viewing a list timeline will show you a stream of Tweets from only the users on that list.
Write a descriptive bio that explains exactly who you are and what you do. A powerful bio can help you gain followers and lets people know what to expect from your account if they were to follow you.
Interact and connect
If anyone follows you, favourites, retweets or comments on your tweet be sure to reply. Try to engage in a conversation at any given opportunity. Same goes for other peoples tweets, if you see something you like or if you think you can add value to the conversation – speak up!
Hashtags are a great way to give your tweets context, where they might not otherwise make sense. Using hashtags also gives you the opportunity for your tweets to reach a wider audience because other users search for specific topics by using hashtags.
Look at Analytics
Twitter offers a free Analytics tool which allows you to see what’s working for you and what’s not. Use this tool to measure the success of each tweet and your overall results over a certain period of time.
When I first started using Twitter everyone used to tell me that the key was to get noticed and in order to get noticed you must tweet often. One lesson I’ve learned from using twitter analytics is that the above statement is not true and that quality beats quantity every time
As you can see in October 2014 we composed 136 tweets on the WriteUpp twitter account. This got us 170 profile visits, 13k impressions, 17 mentions and 14 new followers.
Shortly after reviewing our results we decided it was time to revise our Twitter strategy.
Instead of sharing content 4 times a days we’ve cut it down to once or twice a day. We have started sharing a lot more of our own personal content that we think is helpful or interesting to our target audience.
The results have been really great. In March we composed 75 tweets, had 9,201 impressions, 403 profile visits, 34 mentions, 29 new followers and 16 tweets linking to us. Both the amount of interactions and followers, we gained has doubled!
